Located in Litchfield Park near Peoria, AZ, Sun Health’s La Loma Health and Rehabilitation has expanded its service options and capabilities to include a short term rehabilitation unit – also called short stay assisted living – with even more improvements on the way.
Earlier this year, the care center launched a series of campus improvements, consisting of the completion of a new inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation center, the opening of a 27-bed short-stay skilled nursing unit, and construction of ten assisted living apartments scheduled to open in early 2014.
An update on the project follows:
Rehabilitation Center
This summer, La Loma rehabilitation staff—physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists—moved into a new 6,400 square-foot Rehabilitation Center located on the center’s first floor. The facility received licensing for outpatient rehabilitation in early September, adding to its existing inpatient services. The new center features a new rehabilitation gymnasium offering physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Short Stay Skilled Nursing Unit
Patients seeking care in a more home-like setting will feel welcome and comfortable in La Loma’s Short Stay Unit. Construction crews transformed a previously shelled-in space into a skilled nursing unit housing 27 private rooms with private bathrooms and a focus on person-centered care. The unit has no nurses’ stations, medications are stored in residents’ rooms and residents and guests can enjoy two community living rooms.
Assisted Living Apartments
Construction on the 10-apartment assisted living center is expected to be complete at the end of this year and ready for occupancy in early 2014. The apartments are designed to meet the needs of adults requiring some assistance but not 24-hour nursing care. The 10 apartments will have the capacity for up to 15 residents. The care team will focus on helping residents maintain their mobility and improve their health through nutrition, education and social enrichment.
