Jamie Okland - Sun Health Foundation Golf TourneySURPRISE, ARIZ., March 12, 2015 –  A textbook Arizona spring day greeted more than 120 golfers who took to the Wigwam Arizona Patriot Golf Course in Litchfield Park on March 9 for a good cause.

The “Swinging in the Sun for Charity” tournament raised an estimated $50,000-plus for community wellness programs offered by Sun Health, most of which are provided at no or low-cost to the community.

Sun Health Foundation’s Annual Giving program manager and tournament coordinator Elizabeth Walton thanked the players, sponsors, volunteers and staff members who made the tournament a success.

Walton said over 30 teams registered for the tournament, which included a hybrid format comprised of 11 par-3 holes and seven par-4 or par-5 holes.  The event also included skills contests, closest-to-the-pin competition and a million dollar shoot-out. Nine of the par-3 holes featured hole-in-one prizes for Lexus automobiles from Arrowhead Lexus and Lexus Champions For Charity. No one scored an ace on the prize holes but Kevin Carroll, president of Bold Framing, aced the 144-yard 17th hole on the course.

Mike Hoover, Todd Kinney, Jason Light and Jamie Okland from the Okland Construction team won the tournament with a score of 84.

The grand-prize drawing for the Lexus Champions for Charity Golf Tournament was won by Bill Spencer. He and a golf buddy will play in the December tournament on three of Pebble Beach, California’s legendary golf courses.

The Swinging in the Sun for Charity raised funds through corporate sponsorships, registration fees, Lexus Champions for Charity drawing ticket sales and a silent auction.

“It was a tremendous success,” said Dan Reynolds chair of the tournament and a Sun Health Foundation board member. “I can’t say enough good things about the committee, the Foundation staff and volunteers, the Wigwam staff, the sponsors and the golfers.”

Sun Health’s community wellness programs include: Care Transitions, Community Education, Memory Care Navigator, Medication Management, the Center for Health & Wellbeing and the File and Vial of Life.

Sun Health Foundation is grateful for all sponsors who made the tournament a success.
