  3. Cartober: Turn an Unused Vehicle into Community Impact

Post date:

October is Cartober, a perfect time to take a fresh look at that car, truck, RV, motorcycle, or boat you no longer use and turn it into something meaningful for your community.

Donating a vehicle was a simple decision for Dr. Rundbaken, a pulmonologist with Nimbus Health and a familiar face at Sun Health’s Coffee Connections education sessions. When he realized one of his vehicles was becoming increasingly unnecessary, he chose to donate it through the Sun Health Foundation vehicle donation program.

“I knew it would get less use and I wanted it to benefit someone else,” he shared.

His experience highlights an easy way community members can support the mission of Sun Health Foundation. Through our partnership with CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services), donated vehicles are sold and the proceeds help fund programs and services that benefit the community.

For many people, an unused vehicle can become more of a burden than a benefit. Selling it privately often means advertising costs, meeting with potential buyers, negotiating prices, and continuing to pay for insurance, registration, and maintenance while waiting for a sale. Vehicle donation offers a convenient alternative. Donors receive free towing, incur no out-of-pocket costs, and may be eligible for a tax deduction.

Even better, most vehicles are accepted, whether they are running or not. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, RVs, trailers, campers, and many other motorized vehicles may qualify for donation.

The process is designed to be simple. Donors complete a secure online form or call the donor support team, provide title information, and schedule a free pickup at a convenient time. The vehicle is then picked up and sold through a network of buyers that helps maximize proceeds for the nonprofit partner.

For Dr. Rundbaken, the donation was another way to continue a lifelong commitment to helping others. Throughout his career, he has focused on improving lives through patient care and health education. His support of Sun Health Foundation reflects his belief that giving back can take many forms, whether sharing knowledge, volunteering time, or contributing resources that strengthen the community.

“Supporting a nonprofit like Sun Health is an excellent way to give back to an organization that does so much for our community,” he said.

This Cartober, consider what impact an unused vehicle could have. Instead of taking up space in the garage or driveway, it could help support the programs, services, and initiatives that enhance health and wellness across our community. Like Dr. Rundbaken, you may find that a vehicle you no longer need can become a powerful gift that benefits others for years to come.
