It’s music to the ears of patients, visitors, and families. A beautiful grand piano now graces the lobby at Banner Boswell Medical Center, thanks to the generosity of Sun City residents Lavon and Bob Rosecky. They donated their 1994 Samick piano to the hospital through Sun Health Foundation. Now, beautiful strains of music can be heard whenever anyone sits down to tickle the ivories.
Not only is this a story of generosity, but also a story about “one mini miracle after another” and the swift actions of those at the Foundation and Banner Boswell who helped the piano arrive at its new home with no time to spare. The Rosecky’s, who recently moved to the Royal Oaks Community, decided to sell their Sun City lake home and the buyers agreed to keep much of the furniture, except for the piano and a few other items.
The Rosecky’s had one week to move the piano from their home and were unsure where it would go. Time was of the essence and different options were considered. As long-time friends of Sun Health Foundation, they reached out to Gina W. Ore, Chief Philanthropy Officer for help. After learning Banner Boswell would gratefully accept the donation, it was the swift actions of her team and those at the hospital that made possible this meaningful donation. Lavon Rosecky believes it was a series of tiny miracles that led the piano to its new home.
The most moving of miracles came in a phone call to Lavon from Gina just an hour and a half after the piano arrived. “Brian Standage, who was the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer at the time, sat down at the piano and played Amazing Grace while patients, family and staff were seen with tears in their eyes and running down their cheeks… as were we upon hearing that news.
“It was at that moment that I was struck with the thought of how this “Moving Miracle” and its music will serve to help soothe countless stressed souls for many years to come in that lobby adjacent to the new Emergency Department.”
