Post date:

Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center has recently unveiled a significant expansion to its Women and Infant Services department, marking a milestone in providing enhanced care for mothers and newborns. The new addition includes three state-of-the-art recovery bays, a crucial space or patients recovering from cesarean sections and other surgical procedures. This expansion was made possible by the generous support of the community through Sun Health Foundation, an ongoing partner dedicated to advancing healthcare in the community.

The expanded recovery area offers private, comfortable spaces for families to bond with their newborns immediately following surgery. By providing these additional recovery rooms, the facility not only enhances patient care but also optimizes the use of labor and delivery rooms, allowing them to be dedicated solely to their primary purpose. This thoughtful layout contributes to a more efficient and personalized care experience.

The demand for obstetrics services at Banner Del E. Webb is rising rapidly. Over the past year, the hospital has seen a steady increase in monthly births, with each month in 2024 surpassing the previous year’s numbers. A total of 2,168 babies were born in 2024. As the population continues to grow, so does the need for innovative, cutting-edge care. Providing top-tier post-birthing services and recovery options is crucial to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of the community.

Krystal Henderson, Director of Women and Infant Services at Banner Del E. Webb, emphasized the significant role Sun Health plays in this growth. “The partnership with Sun Health is instrumental to our growth.” Henderson said. “I see firsthand how impactful it is to our community, our care team, and the patients we serve.”

In addition to the expansion of recovery spaces, the department has also undergone a makeover of its triage area. The update includes fresh paint, new flooring, updated light fixtures, and curtains, all designed to create a welcoming and calming environment for patients. These improvements enhance both the patient experience and the workflow for medical staff, allowing them to serve patients more efficiently. This investment in the department not only elevates the patient care environment but also boosts employee morale and retention, fostering a positive workplace culture.

Henderson added, “Our team sees that Sun Health is invested in our employees and the patients we serve. We’re getting new space, renovations—things are being done for us as well as for our patients. It’s rewarding for our employees to see the investment in our facility and the tremendous impact within the community we serve.”

The timing of these updates has already proven to be valuable, especially during Banner Del E. Webb’s record-setting month in October 2024, which saw 225 deliveries. The newly expanded recovery space allowed the hospital to accommodate this surge in births without added stress on the system.

This ongoing collaboration between Sun Health Foundation and Banner Del E. Webb has proven essential in providing quality healthcare to the growing community. From expanding medical services to investing in new technologies, the partnership continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and healthcare professionals alike.
