The impact of this ambitious initiative is far-reaching and includes:
- 425% increase in isolation rooms, from 4 to 17, to contain airborne illnesses
- New diagnostic equipment: Two dedicated CT scanners, two X-ray machines and an ultrasound machine provide faster test results
- Enhanced triage rooms, treatment and observation areas ensure efficiency, timely care and comfort
- Easy-access, ground-floor entrance for walk-in patients and a dedicated area for ambulances
- Larger lobby supports comfort, social distancing
- Reduced wait times, speedier treatment and improved patient satisfaction

October 6, 2020 – Grand Opening!
August 20, 2020 –A milestone was reached on August 28 when construction of the Emergency Department at Banner Boswell Medical Center was completed! Staff are currently equipping the ED with all the equipment, technology, and supplies necessary in preparation for the first patient on October 6.

July 23, 2020 – Nearing Completion
Banner Boswell Medical Center’s Emergency Department and patient tower are taking shape and entering the final construction phases.
Workers are completing the exterior façade including the installation of exterior panels and everything is on schedule in preparation for the first patient on October 6.
June 3, 2020 – Things are coming together nicely!
Flying Panels Mark A New Phase in Construction: Progress is being made at your community hospital. Banner Boswell Medical Center’s Emergency Department and patient tower are taking shape. For a glimpse at the innovative ways the panels were flown into place watch now.
Panels are Flying!
- Placement of the exterior “Banner Block Panels” is beginning and will occur at least through June.
- This innovative construction method is highly efficient.
- An onsite “staging” area (block yard 50 feet away) for the panels is where they wait to be airlifted into place
- Panels will be flying most likely between 6 a.m. and 12 noon week days.
- Placement of each panel can take up to 1.5 hours.
With the continued spread of the novel coronavirus, this transformed facility is an even more important addition to our community’s health care resources and readiness. That’s why construction is full speed ahead. And why community support for this project is vital.

May 2020 – Building for your future as construction continues: While COVID-19 has resulted in cancelling or delaying much of the Valley’s construction, there is exciting news to share. At Banner Boswell Medical Center, construction progress not only continues, it’s full speed ahead to transform the Emergency Department and build a six-story patient care tower.
This crisis has reaffirmed the critical need for this project now, more than ever. Completion is projected for early fall, in time for the medical center’s 50th anniversary.

Generosity for Generations Campaign reaches 50 percent: On Tuesday, March 3, not one but two major milestones were reached in construction and in community support for the Emergency Department transformation at Banner Boswell Medical Center.
In addition to placement of the last steel girder atop the medical center’s new Emergency Department and six-story patient care tower, Sun Health Foundation unveiled a thermometer revealing a significant progress update – 50% to goal – in community support for the $48 million, 48-month Generosity for Generations Campaign. The Campaign includes six initiatives, the major one being the $34 million Emergency Department and Patient Care Transformation. Read more.
