Here at Sun Health, an Arizona nonprofit, we believe that the health and well-being of our community should always come first. That’s why from medication management to our weekly education series, we always focus on the importance of disease prevention, management, and awareness.
And this March 26th is the perfect day for you to join us in our goal of spreading disease awareness! March 26th is the American Diabetes Association Alert Day. Every year, the ADA hosts a one-day “wake-up call” intended to alert the public to the risks of type 2 diabetes by featuring a one minute long Diabetes Risk Test on their website.
Brief, essential, and easy to fill out, this test evaluates factors such as your weight, your age, and your family history to help bring to light any potential risks you might have – before you have them.
But why is Alert Day so important? And what are the dangers associated with diabetes?
Because type 2 diabetes causes glucose to build up in the bloodstream, it can damage blood vessels throughout the entire body. From your heart to your kidneys, from your eyes to your feet, type 2 diabetes can bring about severe health complications such as vision problems, kidney disease, heart attacks, and even strokes.
But by taking an annual risk assessment test, you’ll be helping to guard yourself against diabetes and all of the health problems that can arise because of it. If you find you’re at high risk for type 2 diabetes, you’ll be able to get a head start in speaking with your health provider, in order to make a plan to reverse or check as many of those risks as you can.
And by taking the ADA Alert Test, you won’t just be safeguarding yourself against a potentially dangerous disease – you’ll be helping others in their fight! For every Diabetes Risk Test taken on Alert Day, Boar’s Head will donate $5 to the ADA, up to $50,000 total.
So make sure that this March 26th, you take a minute and complete the Diabetes Risk Test. Evaluate your risks, become more informed, and share the test with friends and family to promote and celebrate diabetes awareness!
