When tragedy struck siblings Kamal and Selera, whose food truck was destroyed in a devastating fire that left them injured and without a livelihood, their future seemed uncertain. That’s when Sun Health with the generosity Discount Tire, hope is back on the menu.
Sun Health recently donated a food truck, affectionately named “Sunny,” to the siblings so they can relaunch their beloved Halimah Food Truck business. Originally in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic the truck had been sitting unused for some time. As the organization considered how best to repurpose it, the story of Kamal and Selera aired on the news and a new purpose for the food truck became clear.
“When we saw the story, we thought, what a great home for this food truck to have a family who can use it to build their future,” Chief Engagement Officer Nora Hannah said.
However, the truck needed some help before it could hit the road again. The tires had deteriorated after months of sitting idle. That’s when Discount Tire stepped in, generously donating a brand-new set of tires and going the extra mile by sending out their mobile unit to install them on-site.
Thanks to these combined efforts, Kamal and Selera can continue doing what they love – serving delicious food and building their family’s future through their small business. To learn more about Sun Health Foundation and its current community initiatives, click here.
