You may have heard the phrase “shop local” in reference to supporting local businesses. The idea is, shopping at local businesses boosts the local economy, and the community as a whole. The same applies to charitable giving. When you “give local”, your contribution directly benefits the community and those who call it home—including yourself and your loved ones. Just as planting a tree ensures shade for future generations, charitable giving on a local level ensures a better future for years to come.
Read on to learn about how you can give back to your community, and how you can invest in a future of superior health care for yourself and your loved ones through Sun Health Foundation’s Generosity for Generations Campaign.
Invest by volunteering: Support local causes
Investing in your community doesn’t always mean monetary donations. Donating your time to a local cause is valuable as well. In fact, Arizonans contribute approximately 160.9 million hours of volunteer service per year, with an estimated worth of $3.8 billion. From organizing a cleanup at a local park to delivering meals to the sick or disabled, there are many ways to make a lasting difference right in your own backyard. For example, volunteering with Sun Health Foundation provides a variety of opportunities to help extend our philanthropic and community outreach efforts.
Not sure where to start? Try to narrow your options down by finding a cause that resonates with you. And if you’ve mastered a skill or trade, you can lend your talents to help those in need.
If you’re passionate about touching lives through support for life-giving health care resources in your community, consider volunteering at the Sun Health Resale Shops, a rewarding opportunity to give back in support of superior health care and wellness. Partial proceeds from all sales are returned to the community, so your contributions of time and talents really do make an impact. Call the Resale Shops at (623) 974-2000 for more information.
Invest by giving: Generosity for Generations
One of the best ways to invest in the future of your community is through improving future health care. From annual checkups and routine operations to sudden emergencies and trips to the Emergency Department (ED), health care touches everyone in the community. That’s why the Generosity for Generations Campaign pledges to raise and invest $48 million in four years for initiatives designed to ensure the continued availability of superior health care in the West Valley for you, your neighbors and your loved ones.
When making a charitable donation, it’s helpful to think of your contribution not in terms of what it is, but what it represents. For example, your donation could help fund the transformation of the Banner Boswell Emergency Department, shorten the distance a cancer patient has to travel to receive care, or help new mothers and their infants recover from delivery. Each and every donation has a real, actionable impact on the community—now and for generations to come. Should the day come when you need to utilize these services, you’ll enjoy the level of superior care you helped make a reality with your donation.
The Generosity for Generations Campaign is comprised of several high-impact initiatives.
Emergency Department and Patient Care Transformation
Originally built in 1970 to accommodate 30,000 patients annually, the Emergency Department at Banner Boswell Medical Center now serves 45,000 annually. The Generosity for Generations Campaign will raise $34 million to expand the existing Emergency Department to accommodate more than 65,000 patients a year, and enhance the emergency-care experience through:
- Increasing the number of patient beds
- Reducing patient and family wait times
- Enhancing triage rooms, treatment areas and observation areas
- Fulfilling increased equipment needs
- And more
With 85 percent of hospital admissions coming through the Emergency Department, it’s crucial to add much-needed space and enhance the patient experience.
Cancer-Fighting Treatment and Care Advancement
Thanks to Banner Health’s partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center, our neighbors and loved ones facing a cancer diagnosis know they can rely on high-quality care and innovation. By raising $2 million to support lung cancer medical care advances at Banner Boswell Medical Center, and breast cancer medical care advances at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center, both hospitals will be able to implement renovations, facility improvements and state-of-the-art technology and equipment to better serve cancer patients. These improvements will give members of the community the ability to obtain most or all of their cancer care closer to home, and still receive the highest level of care.
Spine Health and Orthopedics
As the population of the West Valley grows, so does the need for orthopedic and spine care. The Banner CORE Center for Orthopedics at Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center serves more than 4,700 patients annually. With $2 million in charitable donations, the Center for Orthopedics will be able to add specialized equipment for surgical suites and other service enhancements—essential tools in this fast-changing, always advancing field.
Service Enhancements for Women and Infants
Demand for women’s health care is growing, and there’s more we can do to welcome new lives into our community while keeping women healthy and supported. That’s why the Generosity for Generations Campaign seeks community support to fund $2 million in new developments that support growing families – almost 2,000 deliveries each year – and generations of women. When women’s health care services grow, so does the strength of our greater community.
Community Health and Wellness Program Enrichment
Sun Health’s Community Health and Wellness programs provide impactful, industry-leading services to help individuals live longer, healthier and more purposeful lives. From managing common health conditions to fitness classes and more, each one helps to improve the health of the community. Community support for the Generosity for Generations Campaign will ensure that wellness services continue to serve the needs of West Valley residents.
Future Cardiac Care and Cancer-Fighting Treatment and Care Advancement
With breakthrough technologies and treatments continually emerging, the Generosity for Generations Campaign is planning to invest $6 million to ensure that our local community medical centers remain on the forefront of cardiac and cancer care. Community funding for this initiative will ensure that patients needing cardiac care can receive the help they need in those critical moments.
