SURPRISE, ARIZ., July 7, 2017 – Sun Health Foundation is continuing its support of the Banner Olive Branch Senior Center in Sun City, with a new contribution of $85,000.
The funds will be used to feed more adults through the center’s home-delivered meal program.
According to Ivy Glinski, director of Banner Olive Branch Senior Center, the program delivered more than 30,000 nutritious meals to homebound seniors in 2016, but the demand is growing.
“We have people on waiting lists,” Glinski said. “The needs are great, so we’re very thankful for this donation. It will help us help continue to grow our efforts.”
Applicants for the program are assessed for eligibility based on income and other factors by Maricopa County case managers.
“We know that hunger is a fact of life for one in 11 seniors. This donation will not only provide meals, but also raise awareness for the important issue of solving senior hunger,” said Sharon Thornton, executive vice president and chief philanthropy officer for Sun Health Foundation.
The home-delivered meals are prepared from scratch in the kitchen at Banner Olive Branch Senior Center. Five days a week, a team of employees and volunteers prepare and deliver nutritious meals to hundreds of disabled and home-bound older adults in the northwest Valley. The program’s service boundaries are in between W. Olive Avenue and Union Hills Road (south and north) and Youngtown and the Agua Fria Freeway (west and east).
