SURPRISE, ARIZ. , Nov. 19, 2015 – Rev. David Klumpenhower, an ordained minister and trained chaplain, was recently named the director of Spiritual Life for nonprofit Sun Health.

He comes to Sun Health from the Beatitudes Campus retirement community in Phoenix, where he was a chaplain for six years.

Klumpenhower’s career also includes a four-year assignment as the senior pastor for Walker United Reformed Church, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a three-year job as a first-grade teacher at Phoenix Christian Grade School.

Born and raised on a dairy farm in Listowel, Ontario, Canada, two hours west of Toronto, Klumpenhower is the third oldest of seven children. His parents were born in Holland and immigrated to Canada in the late 1940s.

“My upbringing taught me how to work and it developed in me a passion to serve and minister to those in need,” Klumpenhower said. “I am excited to be given this opportunity to serve as a non-denominational spiritual director for the residents and staff at all three Sun Health Life Care communities and for the staff at Sun Health.”

Klumpenhower has a master’s of divinity in theology from Mid-America Reformed Seminary in Dyer, Indiana and   bachelor’s in elementary and special education from Dordt College, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He also received Clinical Pastoral Education training at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center and Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.

Klumpenhower is married and has three sons. He enjoys the outdoors, wildlife, gardening and following professional sports teams.
